How you might win prizes

Prizes are won by matching your chosen numbers to those drawn in our draws.

When you buy a ticket or are awarded a free ticket, you will have five numbers between 1 and 49. Tickets cost £1.

Every Monday and Thursday at 10pm we hold a draw. The draw is determined using a certified random number generator and is observed and validated by at least two members of the Scottish Children’s Lottery team. Five numbers and a bonus ball are drawn.

The more numbers you match, the higher the prize you may win.

Likelihood of winning prizes

The chance of you winning a prize in any draw is shown below. As you have a chance of winning any one of the prizes below, the combined chance of winning any prize is 1 in 6.

Proceeds

As well as paying prizes to you, we guarantee that from every £1 ticket sold, at least 20p will go to supporting Children in Scotland.

This has helped us raise over £7.8m for children in Scotland since our launch in October 2016.

To give you an example, in 2022

  • we received £3,394,806 in ticket sales
  • we donated £678,959 to good causes (20%)
  • we paid out £918,568 in prizes (27%)
  • 53% of ticket sales were used to help cover operating expenses (including marketing)

Grants

Since launch, our charity has distributed over £7.8 million to good causes.

Charities supporting children in Scotland can apply for grants via our supporting charity website:

Scottish Children's Lottery Trust has a group of trustees that will determine which applications will be successful for funding.

  • Qualifying criteria includes;
  • The charity applying should be a registered charity in Scotland with a charity bank account. It should also return annual accounts.
  • That the money is for a project delivered in Scotland
  • That the charity’s accounts are up to date
  • That the charity works outside or supplementary to statutory responsibilities
  • That the charity can clearly demonstrate positive impacts as it will be required to deliver an end of grant impact analysis report
  • That the charity has secured funding from another source as we will normally only give funding of up to 50% of any project – any more than this will be at the sole discretion of the trustees
  • We will only fund for one year. This is to ensure the charity is not fully reliant on our donation in future years
  • The money cannot be used for retrospective or deficit funding or repayment of loans
  • The amount of funds available for distribution will depend on the amount of tickets sold
  • The maximum grant that can be applied for is £15,000
  • Grants are normally awarded by our charity trustees quarterly
  • Details of successful grants can be found on our website on the Good Causes page or in the list below
  • We publish Annual Reports with details of funding in that year which is generally available
